Just an hour from Paris, in Normandy, is Claude Monet’s quiet getaway. After living in the bustle of Paris and the industrial port town of Le Havre, Algeria, and London, Claude Monet settled in the sleepy town of Giverny in 1883 along with his large family of 8 children.

It is here that Monet would find inspiration for some of his most famous works: the waterlilies.

Though Monet’s life was not always easy he did find some solace in the calm serenity of his garden, of which he was sole architect.

An art historian will lead you through Monet’s home and gardens. You will then have lunch and head to Vernon, a nearby town where you will see some of Monet’s paintings in the Impressionist Museum (as there are no originals are in his home).
