Though this château boasts eight centuries of history, it stands at it is today thanks to one man. Henri d’Orléans, duc d’Aumale, son of the last King of the French, Louis-Philippe, inherited the estate and turned it into a veritable homage to France and his predecessors.

Henri was a great collector of books, furniture, and paintings. Today the château displays the artwork, including 3 Raphaels, exactly how the duke left it before his death in 1897.

Head to Michelin-starred restaurant, La Table du Connétable, for a food and wine pairing lunch, overlooking the pristine gardens of the château.

In the afternoon, stroll through the gardens designed by the famed landscaper of Versailles, André le Notre. Or meet up with a veterinarian specialized in polo and race horses who will lead you through the equestrian side of Chantilly.
